He resided in Canisteo Twp., Steuben County, NY in 1860. Enlisted in the 86th Regiment of NY Infantry at Hornell, New York 11 Oct 1861. He was wounded in the arm at Gettysburg. Discharged as disabled from US General Hospital at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 17 Feb 1864. He and his family resided in Emerson Township, Gratiot County, Michigan in 1880. He was a farmer.

He is named Charles in that census, so Charles might be his middle name or possibly his first! He is listed as a wood worker, living at 145 Robinson Street in Binghamton, New York in the 1889 city directory. In 1900 & 1910 he lived in Binghamton, NY with his daughter Nellie and had his own income - no occupation listed.
